Due to electrical issues at Villanova Stadium, the 2016 MLU Championship will now be taking place at Franklin Field at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pa on July 16 at 5pm.
Previously announced to be taking place at Villanova Stadium in Bryn Mawr, Pa, the event will be moved to Franklin Field at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pa, site of the 2013 MLU Championship.
“As our original location became unavailable, the choice to return to Franklin Field was an obvious one,” said Nic Darling, MLU’s Executive Vice President. “We’ve seen some amazing MLU games at [Franklin Field at the University of Pennsylvania] over the past 4 years, and its location in the heart of the city makes it an ideal venue for our biggest event of the year.”
The game will take place between the Eastern Conference and Western Conference champions, which will be decided during the conference championship games on the weekend of June 25. The teams will meet at Franklin Field at the University of Pennsylvania to compete for the 2016 MLU Championship Trophy.
Playing host to the inaugural MLU Championship in 2013, as well as several Philadelphia Spinners games, Franklin Field at the University of Pennsylvania has been an iconic landmark in Philadelphia athletics since the 19th century. Owned and operated by the University of Pennsylvania, the stadium has been home to some of the nations most prestigious sporting events. Aside from Penn’s Quakers football program, the 121 year old stadium has played host to the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles, the annual Army-Navy Game and the Penn Relays, the oldest and largest track and field competition in the nation.

The location is easily accessible from I-95 and I-76, as well as via SEPTA [mass transit]. From Center City, it’s just a short walk across the South Street bridge. “
