Major League Ultimate announced today the broadcast team for this weekend’s Boston Area Women’s All-Star Game.
This weekend’s Boston Area Women’s All-Star Game will be broadcast live via MLU’s live streaming service, MLU Live. While rosters for both teams were announced yesterday, the league today announced that the game will be covered by a three person broadcast team.
As with all MLU games, the All-Star Game will be broadcast will be free of charge, pursuant to the league’s goal of making high level ultimate available to fans around the world.
Play-by-play will be called by the league’s own Executive Vice President, Nic Darling. Joining Nic in the booth and handling color commentary will be his partner on the Cleats and Cufflinks podcast, Dusty Rhodes, analyst and author for MLU, and a true expert on ultimate.
While Darling and Rhodes are staples of MLU broadcasts, the duo will be joined for the game by Rosalyn Año, a longtime fixture in Boston Area ultimate.
“Thank you MLU’s Boston Whitecaps and Boston’s Brute Squad for this amazing opportunity to commentate on what I’m sure will be a fantastic showcase of high-level women’s Ultimate.” said Año. “I’m honored and thrilled to celebrate the achievements of these fine athletes with our live stream audience.”
The Head Coach of Boston College Women’s Ultimate since 2006, Año sports an impressive ultimate resume as a player, coach and volunteer in the Boston area. After founding, captaining and eventually serving as assistant coach for Boston University Women’s Ultimate, Año has played, coached and mentored players across the region.
In her playing career, Año joined Slow White, Boston’s Elite Club Mixed Team in 2004. After 3 years on Slow White, which saw her win two silver medals at club nationals and a bronze at the 2006 WFDF World Club Championships in Australia, Año joined Lady Godiva, the most successful and longest running team in the history of ultimate.
After two years with Lady Godiva, Año returned to Slow White in 2010. A member of Slow White through 2013, Año took up coaching responsibilities for the club for the 2014-2015 seasons, before returning as a player this year. Año briefly returned to Lady Godiva to help them win a silver medal at the 2014 WFDF World Ultimate Club Championships in Lecco, Italy. Outside of club, Año has been an active and vocal member of BUDA (Boston Ultimate Disc Alliance), serving in every way possible – playing, coaching, mentoring, directing tournaments, etc..
“On a personal level,” continued Darling, “I am excited to be a part of this game, and look forward to sharing the booth with Rosalyn and Dusty.”
