The country’s premier professional ultimate frisbee league, Major League Ultimate, announced today that they have expanded their coverage deal with CSN for their 2016 Championship.

The MLU announced today that their 2016 MLU Championship game will be broadcasted via NBC Sports Regional Networks across the country, an expansion of their existing partnership with the media giant.

The culmination of the 2016 Major League Ultimate Season, the MLU Championship will see the top ultimate frisbee players in the country come to Philadelphia to showcase their skills in pursuit of professional ultimate’s greatest prize – the Silver Disc.

Played in over 80 countries around the world, ultimate frisbee is one of the fastest growing team sports played in the United States, with over 5 millions people playing the game each year around the nation. Major League Ultimate, now in its fourth season, represents the highest level of professional ultimate in the world.

“Ultimate frisbee has been around for a long time but only recently have people had an opportunity to see the best in the world compete,” says MLU Executive VP Nic Darling. “This game will bring the top players to Philadelphia and put them on the biggest stage we have. It will be an incredible display of ultimate.”

Produced by the MLU Films production staff under the direction of Matt Gray, the MLU’s Emmy Award winning Director of Video Production, the championship game will feature additional cameras and replay features.

The 2016 MLU Championship will be played on July 16, with the Philadelphia Spinners (10-1) taking on the Portland Stags (10-1) at Franklin Field at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

Franklin Field at the University of Pennsylvania has been an iconic landmark in Philadelphia athletics since the 19th century.  Owned and operated by the University of Pennsylvania, the stadium has been home to some of the nation’s most prestigious sporting events.

In addition to Penn’s Quakers football program, the 121 year old stadium has played host to the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles, the annual Army-Navy Game and the Penn Relays, the oldest and largest track and field competition in the nation. The stadium also played home to the Spinners for part of their 2014 season, and served as the venue for the 2013 MLU Championship between Boston Whitecaps and the San Francisco Dogfish.

Back in April, the MLU announced an emphasis on coverage for the 2016 season, expanding their MLU Live broadcasts to cover all regular season games.  To further implement that emphasis, the league has agreed to an expansion of their deal with CSN to rebroadcast the 2016 MLU Championship in 6 markets via regional sports networks.

In the weeks after the Championship, the game will be rebroadcast on CSN New England, TCN Philadelphia, TCN Mid-Atlantic, CSN Chicago Plus, CSN Bay Area and CSN NorthWest.
