Major League Ultimate announced today a renewed partnership with Friction Gloves, the Portland-based ultimate frisbee glove company.
MLU announced today that they have renewed one of their longest running partnership, naming Friction Gloves as the official gloves of the league.
“We are very happy to have Friction Gloves back for the 3rd year as the exclusive glove of Major League Ultimate.” said MLU’s VP of Partner Development Jonathan MacQueen, “They have been a loyal supporter since our inaugural season.”
Friction Gloves have long been available in the MLU Shop, and have consistently been been a best selling item. Last year, Friction Gloves released their 2.0, an improved second version created with the help of player feedback. This season, the MLU will be offering exclusive red friction gloves via their online shop.
“We have partnered with the MLU since its inception in 2013.” said Friction Gloves Founder Chris Hancock, “We were a new company back then and the MLU helped expose our products to a wide audience, something that really helped get us off the ground. Friction has grown each year and is proud to be the number one ultimate glove in the sport.”
As part of the agreement, Major League Ultimate will continue to feature the Friction Gloves Catch of the Week during each week of MLU action.
MLU players wearing Friction Gloves have been featured on SportsCenter’s Top 10 segment on multiple occasions in the past three years. The national exposure gained by these highlights has been a benefit to both partners, showcasing the high level talent of MLU athletes as well as the value of Friction Gloves to a larger audience.
“We are excited to make custom Frictions for the MLU, which can be purchased on the MLU fan shop.” said Hancock, “We are also going to be producing custom Frictions for the Portland Stags and the Boston Whitecaps, to be showcased when they play against each other on May 21st. We wanted to do something special for the cross conference game and we thought custom Frictions would be perfect fit.”
With MLU introducing their taste of cross-divisional play to the 2016 season, it is only fitting that one of the league’s oldest partners, Friction Gloves is there to help commemorate it.
“Very excited to see the custom gloves that are being developed for the Portland vs Boston game in May!” said MacQueen.
