Major League Ultimate announced today that it will host a Boston Area Women’s All-Star Game in June, highlighting elite level women ultimate players in the Boston area.

The league announced today that on June 11, MLU will host the first Boston Area Women’s All-Star Game, a showcase of elite level ultimate, featuring the area’s top women ultimate players.

Played back-to-back as a doubleheader with MLU’s Boston Whitecaps and Washington D.C. Current, the All-Star Game is aimed at exposing MLU’s fanbase to the skill and athleticism of the area’s best ultimate athletes.

“We don’t want to just shine a spotlight on women’s ultimate, we want to help make it mainstream.” said Lindi Sabloff, the league’s Chief Financial Officer. “The best way to accomplish that is to use a platform like the Boston Area Women’s All-Star Game to bring the excitement of women’s ultimate to as many people as possible both live and through streaming video.”

MLU’s mission remains to be “committed to bringing ultimate to a world-wide audience by making it accessible”, so we are excited to bring championship level women’s ultimate to our fanbase.

Boston was the ideal market for the game, as the recent success of the area’s ultimate teams allows for a unique fan experience. Only in Boston would fans have the opportunity to not only see the reigning MLU Champion Whitecaps take on the league previous champions, the D.C. Current, but also see members of the 2015 USAU Womens’ Club Nationals Champion Brute Squad compete.

“Brute Squad is excited for the support of the Boston Whitecaps to have this opportunity to put on the ‘Boston Area All-Star Game’ to showcase womens’ club ultimate in front of the MLU fan base.” said Chelsea Murphy, one of the captains of Brute Squad. “We strive to continue to push the conversation about gender equity in sports and hope any media coverage helps to inspire the next generation of women’s ultimate players.”

In addition to the live game played at Hormel Stadium in Medford, the home of the Boston Whitecaps, the Boston Area Women’s All-Star Game will be broadcast live via MLU Live, the league’s free live streaming service. MLU is thrilled to not only offer more ultimate to its fans, but also showcase competitive women’s ultimate across the league’s digital audience.

“We respect elite female athletes in our city and in our sport and are excited to help showcase their talents.” said Whitecaps veteran Christian Foster. “We admire these athletes and strive to achieve the dominance they showed the world last year winning the national championship. We hope that this showcase game offers sports fans some new role models to look up to and starts a movement of discussion and action towards narrowing the gender gap in ultimate frisbee.”

More details, including rosters and ticket packages will be announced in the upcoming weeks, but be sure to follow the Whitecaps (TwitterFacebookInstagram) and Brute Squad (TwitterFacebookInstagram) for more information.
