On August 8, PPL Park, the home of the Philadelphia Union, will be opening its doors to a flood of Major League Ultimate fans there to witness the Eastern and Western Conference champions battle it out for the MLU trophy.

Last season, PPL Park hosted the Vancouver Nighthawks and the D.C. Current in front of thousands of MLU fans. Commissioner Jeff Snader and the MLU Board decided to return to PPL for the pristine field conditions and unrivaled fan experience.

“PPL Park is a fantastic stadium partner,” said Nic Darling, Executive VP of the MLU. “They are engaged in promotion, supportive of sponsorship activation and provide a phenomenal stage for our biggest game.”

With the Portland Stags being the only team in the league thus far to secure a spot in the playoffs, the matchup for the championship game is still very much in the air. The Seattle Rainmakers show promise in their pursuits to meet the Stags in the Western Conference Finals, though, the San Francisco Dogfish still find themselves in contention.

As for the Eastern Conference, the two playoff spots are still up for grabs. With goal differential and head-to-head matchups separating the Boston Whitecaps and the Philadelphia Spinners, it will simply come down to what team keeps winning. Even then, both teams will still need to fight off the D.C. Current, last year’s MLU champions, who are biting at their heels from the third-place position.

It is difficult to say which teams will be seen at the Championship game, though, there is no doubt that this game will be one to remember; not only for the game itself, but for the event built around it.

At 2:00 p.m. before ultimate’s biggest game, the MLU will host the Championship Tailgate featuring the MLU Fan Zone. Fans are encouraged to bring their own food and drinks while the MLU provides the entertainment such as Kan Jam, Spikeball, Big Cans and much more. The afternoon of games, great prizes and family fun will continue until the Championship game’s first pull at 6:30 p.m.

In addition, MLU athletes will also be running a youth clinic on the PPL Park field at 4:00 p.m., just a few hours before the game. This is the perfect opportunity for kids to learn to cut, throw and catch with some of the best in the league. Each young fan that participates will walk away with a free disc and the opportunity for these to be autographed by their favorite MLU players.

Immediately following the game, fans are encouraged to attend the MLU Championship After-Party hosted by Xfinity Live! at the Philadelphia Sports Complex. There you’ll find an array of bars, restaurants and entertainment venues including the NBC Sports Arena, Victory Beer Hall, Broad Street Bullies Pub, PBR Bar & Grill and the Spectrum Grill. Drink specials will be offered and free admission will be given to fans who mention that they came from the MLU Championship game.

As the Championship Weekend approaches, stay posted to the MLU on Twitter and Facebook for announcements about developing events that will be added to the schedule.

Head to the MLU Championship site for ticketing options, including group rates, premium seats, VIP seats and luxury suites. Fans will receive 10 percent off when they purchase their tickets before July 1.
