Major League Ultimate released the next installment of their new video series today. MLU Rewind offers a look back at many of the best games from the past four years of MLU action.
MLU Rewind takes a look back at some of the most memorable games from the first four years of Major League Ultimate action, highlighting the key moments and plays that kept fans on the edge of their seats.
This week, we take a look back to our inaugural season, as the New York Rumble
and Washington D.C. Current
met to decide who would move on to face the Boston Whitecaps
in the first Eastern Conference Final. Both teams had a doubleheader and entered the weekend with a 3-5 record. On Saturday, the Current played the Philadelphia Spinners
, while the Rumble took on the Whitecaps.
Because the winner of Sunday’s matchup between New York and D.C. would win the season series and capture the tiebreaker, the outcome of Saturday’s games was meaningless, making Sunday’s game a de-facto playoff. The winner would face the Whitecaps to see who would represent the Eastern Conference in the MLU Championship. Both teams rested their starters on Saturday and lost.
The game was hard fought from the start. New York’s Chris Mazur
had the best game of his career, with 53 throws and 9 assists on an injured leg. Washington D.C. was carried by Calvin Oung
, who quietly put up an impressive 10 points, and Delrico Johnson
who’s incredible 4th quarter layout goal put the Current ahead for good.
