In MLU’s new video series Ultimate Gamechangers, we take a weekly look back at the moments that shaped the 2015 season.

For this week’s installment, we took a look at the Western Conference Final between the underdog Seattle Rainmakers (5-5) and the heavily favored Portland Stags (9-1).

For the second straight season, the Stags ended the regular season with the best record in the west, entitling them to home-field advantage for the Western Conference Championship.  The Stags were picked by most experts to win the game handily and travel to meet the Boston Whitecaps in the MLU Championship in Philadelphia.

But right from the start, Seattle came out firing, jumping out to an early lead and pressuring the mighty Stags throughout the first quarter.  With less than a minute to go in the opening quarter, the Rainmakers had the disc and were looking to push their lead to 3 goals.  Seattle ran their offense, and had a man open for the goal, but what the Rainmakers couldn’t predict was the pure athleticism of Stag’s defensive cutter Peter Woodside.

While the Rainmakers would go on to win the game and upset the Stags, Woodside’s superhuman efforts prevented the game from getting out of hand early, resulting in a down-to-the-wire ending that kept fans on the edge of their seats.
