Another MLU season is upon us, thus time to begin fantasy trash talking as well as semi-informed Picks and Predictions by the MLU Experts.

Each week, we predict the outcomes of MLU games. We’re not very good at frisbee, but we’ve got that fire for competition. Let us indulge ourselves and pretend this matters!

Luke Ryan | MLU Head Statistician

Prediction record: 3-1

N.Y. Rumble vs. Boston Whitecaps | Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. ET
Score: 17-15, Boston

Philadelphia Spinners vs. D.C. Current | Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. ET
Score:
 21-19, Philadelphia

Vancouver Nighthawks vs. Seattle Rainmakers | Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. PT
Score: 20-18, Seattle

Portland Stags vs. San Francisco Dogfish | Sunday, April 26, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. PT
Score:
 18-17, Portland

Eastern Conference Star of the Week: Jake Rainwater (Philadelphia)
Western Conference Star of the Week: Daniel Trytiak (Seattle)

“The same things can be said about the Rainmakers and Nighthawks in Week 1: solid defensive play that was overshadowed by their offenses’ inability to score. It’s hard to judge if the Rainmakers were just in the wrong place at the wrong time with the buzzsaw that was the Portland Stags, but with Trytiak returning I expect the Rainmakers offense to open up and win a close one.”

Tim Brubaker | MLU Statistician

N.Y. Rumble vs. Boston Whitecaps | Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. ET
Score: 23-20, Boston

Philadelphia Spinners vs. D.C. Current | Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. ET
Score:
 21-19, D.C.

Vancouver Nighthawks vs. Seattle Rainmakers | Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. PT
Score: 18-17, Seattle

Portland Stags vs. San Francisco Dogfish | Sunday, April 26, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. PT
Score:
 22-18, Portland

Eastern Conference Star of the Week: Jeff Wodatch (Current)
Western Conference Star of the Week: Mark Burton (Rainmakers)

“Look for New York to take a step forward this year, but Boston has too much going for them this weekend. Boston is 0-2 so they’ll be playing hard to get that first win. If that doesn’t pump them up enough, it’s also their home opener. Finally, when one team is playing their first game and the other their third: the latter is going to play a lot smoother. Plus, you’ve got a wild Graham on offense and a Hatchett on defense. Add it all up: Boston win.

Prediction record: 3-1

N.Y. Rumble vs. Boston Whitecaps | Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. ET
Score: 22-18, Boston

Philadelphia Spinners vs. D.C. Current | Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. ET
Score:
 26-25 (OT), Philadelphia

Vancouver Nighthawks vs. Seattle Rainmakers | Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. PT
Score: 19-16, Vancouver

Portland Stags vs. San Francisco Dogfish | Sunday, April 26, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. PT
Score:
 23-19, Portland

Eastern Conference Star of the Week: Jake Rainwater (Philadelphia)
Western Conference Star of the Week: Cody Bjorklund (Portland)

“Disclaimer: I’m a Philly Homer. I feel for Philly sports what Jon Madden feels for Brett Favre. I also had a chance to see the Spinners and the D.C. Current both play last week, and while D.C. is still the force they were last season (maybe better), Philadelphia is hungry and has something to prove after getting booted from contention by D.C. last season at home. Once again the reigning MLU champion gets dethroned, Week 2 in D.C. 26-25 (OT), Spinners.”

“Stag party this weekend in the Bay Area! Ideally, they’ll at least have the consideration to bring down some cellarable consolation gifts from the incomparable Hair of the Dog Brewery to pair with the fish they’ll be spearing on their antlers. The sole hope for the Dogfish lies in the possibility that the Stags will mistakenly throw at the orange SF shorts rather than at their own orange shirts.”

“I wanted to give this one to Philadelphia and I think it is going to be a close game, but with D.C. at home I can’t see this going any other way. If Philadelphia can take advantage of D.C.’s mistakes, they might be able to find the win, but if D.C. can clean up its game from last week the Spinners are going to have a bad time.”

“These Spring Reign matchups always bring a huge Seattle crowd full of young ultimate players. But I don’t think that’ll be enough to rally behind the Rainmakers, especially without Khalif El-Salaam. Vancouver will edge this one out. Speaking of Vancouver, that supposedly beautiful city produced the absolutely beautiful band Destroyer. Listen to the whole song. DO IT.”
