The 2016 MLU Season has begun, thus time to begin fantasy trash talking as well as semi-informed Picks and Predictions by the MLU “Experts”. Each week, we predict the outcomes of MLU games. We’re not very good at frisbee, but we’ve got that fire for competition. Let us indulge ourselves and pretend this matters!

Prediction record: 9-0

San Francisco Dogfish vs. Portland Stags | Saturday, April 23, 2016, 5:00 p.m. PT
Score: 22-20, Stags

Vancouver Nighthawks vs. Seattle Rainmakers | Saturday, April 23, 2016, 6:30 p.m. PT
Score: 17-13, Seattle

New York Rumble vs. Washington D.C. Current | Saturday, April 23, 2016, 7:00 p.m. ET
Score: 16-15, Washington DC

New York Rumble vs. Philadelphia Spinners | Sunday, April 24, 2016, 12:00 p.m. ET
Score: 22-13, Philadelphia

Eastern Conference Star of the Week: Jibran Mieser (New York)
Western Conference Star of the Week: Cam Bailey (Seattle)

“Looking at only the small sample size available, the Dogfish could be a surprise team out of the West this year. They handed the Stags their only regular season loss last year and could be the team to do it again this year. However, you’ll have to check back on the 7th if you want to see that. The Stags may be down the likes of McGinn, Meinershagen, and Jensen again but still boast some quality depth. However, the Dogfish have 7 listed inactives that played a large part week one. These players, most notably James Sheridan, account for almost 30% of the teams scoring, and 25% of their blocks. If you’ve got a chance to beat the Stags you need to keep pace offensively and force a few turns. That’s going to be too tough to accomplish, in Portland, without those names and so the Stags will move to 4-0.”

Western Conference Star of the Week: Gavin McKibben (Seattle)

“Until the Rumble can prove that they can string together more than 2 points of competent ultimate, I can’t pick them to win a game. Last week they again showed glimmers of hope and Mason Compton has the looks of a difference maker for this offense. Here’s to hoping he gets to play more than 9 points… They still lose”

“The Border Bid.  U-S-A vs C-A-N-A-D-A.  The absence of El-Salaam is worrisome, but as a red blooded American I have to throw my faith behind the red, white and blue… errr… blue and green.  I do expect the Nighthawks to improve as their teams gets more and more experience under their belts”

“Of the eight MLU teams, only three (If we, to the chagrin of Oakland, unite the Bay Area into one place), have their analogous NBA teams in the playoffs: Stags:Trail Blazers, Whitecaps:Celtics, Dogfish:Warriors. Of those three teams, only the magical Golden State Warriors are ahead in their playoff series at a 2-1 mark (Trail Blazers and Celtics are 0-2), having lost to the James Harden Show by one while without the transcendent Steph Curry. Point being, the Bay Area can’t have it all (Possibly news to them) and as such, the Stags will do a clip-clopping hoof dance all over the hopes of the Dogfish. As for the Whitecaps, sure the Celtics are 0-2, but heed Tupac and keep your head up because at least you’re not the last-in-the-NBA 76ers, the incomplete Knicks, or the disappointing Wizards.”

“This is the third annual Border Bid game held north of Seattle in Mt. Vernon. Right now the record is tied 1-1, but unless the Rainmakers really drops the ball they should be looking at taking the lead. Vancouver’s squad just doesn’t have enough experience to deal with the talent on Seattle’s roster.”

“Vancouver is off to a rough start, where Seattle showed signs of improvement from week 1 despite missing Khalif El-Salaam. The Nighthawks are going to overmatched on the road against a team that doesn’t want to be 0-3I said the Rainmakers had somewhat of a must win last week against Portland, and they had an opportunity to do it late in the 4th quarter, but couldn’t. This week against Vancouver they’re expected to win and should have no problem doing so.”

“The Rumble, on the heels of a 7 p.m. start time the night before, play the Spinners at noon in Philadelphia. Hardly the ideal scenario you want to take on the Eastern Conference’s top team. Expect to see the Spinners play a lot of their newer and younger guys if they obtain a comfortable lead. Pick up guys like Ethan Fortin and Doug Roman if you’re looking for fantasy pick-ups this week.”
