Another MLU season is upon us, thus time to begin fantasy trash talking as well as semi-informed Picks and Predictions by the MLU Experts.

Each week, we predict the outcomes of MLU games. We’re not very good at frisbee, but we’ve got that fire for competition. Let us indulge ourselves and pretend this matters!

Greg Fallon | MLU Assistant Production Manager

Prediction record: 27-13

Seattle Rainmakers vs. Portland Stags | Saturday, July 11, 2015, 7:30 p.m. PT
Score: 22-16, Portland

Seattle Player of the Game: Mark Burton
Portland Player of the Game: Timmy Perston

“Mark Burton has had a tremendous year and has carried the Rainmakers to this game, but I don’t think he can will them past this well balanced Portland squad.”

Luke Ryan | MLU Head Statistician

Prediction record: 22-18

Seattle Rainmakers vs. Portland Stags | Saturday, July 11, 2015, 7:30 p.m. PT
Score: 21-20, Seattle

Seattle Player of the Game: Mark Burton
Portland Player of the Game: Timmy Perston

“Am I still in last place with these picks and predictions? Are correct playoff predictions worth more points than regular season predictions? Am I the only person picking the Rainmakers? Were the Rainmakers my preseason pick to win the Western Conference? Am I sticking to my guns? Maybe-Maybe-Maybe-Yes-Yes”

Tim Brubaker | MLU Statistician

Prediction record: 26-14

Seattle Rainmakers vs. Portland Stags | Saturday, July 11, 2015, 7:30 p.m. PT
Score: 23-22, Portland

Seattle Player of the Game: Daniel Trytiak
Portland Player of the Game: Cody Bjorklund

“Despite only losing once, to the Dogfish, all season it seemed like if one team were to bring down the Stags in the playoffs it would be the Rainmakers. Now they have that chance. Both these offenses have scored at will throughout the season but have also put up formidable defensive performances. The game could be a “first break wins” showdown, but the Stags will come out on top. Although both teams are down key men, the loss of Khalif El-Salaam will be the largest absence. Spending more time on the defensive line this year, his talent might’ve been what forced that one last turn the Rainmakers needed to win. Without him the pressure falls even heavier on offensive handler Daniel Trytiak to play his deep game while valuing possession. If not, you can be sure Dan Suppnick will find Peter Woodside in no time.”

Tom Levy | Digital Media Manager

Prediction record: 23-17

Seattle Rainmakers vs. Portland Stags | Saturday, July 11, 2015, 7:30 p.m. PT
Score: 21-20 (OT), Seattle

Seattle Player of the Game: Mark Burton
Portland Player of the Game: Cody Bjorklund

“Why am I picking Seattle? I’m picking Seattle because I want to pick Seattle.  Mark Burton has lost BOTH of the previous Western Conference Finals (2013 with SEA, 2014 with PDX), and now after leading the league in pts, he is  the underdog facing a VERY tough opponent in the Stags.  Portland is strong, but Seattle is sneaky good and I think Burton, Trytiak, Klein and the Rainmakers punch their ticket to Philly.  21-20, Seattle. Because.”

Prediction record: 25-11

Seattle Rainmakers vs. Portland Stags | Saturday, July 11, 2015, 7:30 p.m. PT
Score: 21-20, Portland

Seattle Player of the Game: Mark Burton
Portland Player of the Game: Topher Davis

“By the end of this game, I will have seen two games between Seattle and Portland in Portland. I live in Maryland. I’ll be traveling across the country and back for an ultimate game. For the second time in a month or so. What a strange world this is we all live and breathe in. (And it is one world not three.) Or do we reside and breathe on a planet? Oh the folly of prepositions. Irregardless (sic) the Rainmakers will be in trouble on Portland’s turf though the Rainmakers will valiantly fight on.”

William Curb | MLU Director of West Coast Digital Media

Prediction record: 28-12

Seattle Rainmakers vs. Portland Stags | Saturday, July 11, 2015, 7:30 p.m. PT
Score: 22-20, Portland

Seattle Player of the Game: Mark Burton
Portland Player of the Game: Peter Woodside

“I haven’t bet against the Stags yet this season and I don’t see any reason to start. Both teams are going to be missing a few players but it with Portland’s depth they won’t have a problem filling in. Seattle has a lot of heart and it will be a close game, but the Stags have only had one thing on their mind all season and now is the chance to punch their ticket.”
