Seattle, WA – Here’s a quick recap of the Rainmakers 20-17 victory over the San Francisco Dogfish at Rainier Beach Stadium.
How it Happened: After trading points in the first two possessions, the Rainmakers went on a five-point run to take the first quarter 6-1. The Dogfish were able to turn it around in the second quarter with stingy defense that allowed them to outscore the Rainmakers 8-4 and end the half only down by one (10-9). The Dogfish tied the game coming out of the half, but the Rainmakers rallied and were able to regain their lead in the third. While the Dogfish were still playing hard in the fourth, Seattle didn’t relent and was able to limit San Francisco to only matching points.
Turning Point: The first quarter had the makings of a blowout, but sloppy play from the Rainmakers and a strong Dogfish defensive unit got them back into the game during the second quarter. One of the highlights of the first half was a buzzer beating hammer from the Dogfish to put them within one point before halftime. While the Dogfish were able to tie it up coming out of the half they were never able to take the lead. Had they been able to score a few extra points in the first quarter this could have been a very different game.
Player of the Game: Whether it was chasing down hucks or making incredible grabs to keep plays alive, Evan Boucher always seemed to be involved. Boucher racked up nine points with five goals and four assists, creating two of his goals from tipped discs.
Stat of the Game: Twelve different Rainmakers scored goals in this game. While Mark Burton led the team with four goals, the Rainmakers spread the wealth with only three other players scoring more than two goals.
Quotable: “Each week we’re still trying to figure everything out,” said Mark Burton. “I wish we figured it out in Week 1, but I’ll take Week 3. Our D is really stepping up, getting us these breaks. D won us this game; O kept us in it.”
What’s Next: The Dogfish travel to face the undefeated Stags next week at Hillsboro Stadium. The Rainmakers get a week off to celebrate their win. Catch them again in Week 5 when they travel to Yellowjacket Stadium in Berkeley, Calif for a rematch with the Dogfish.
