PORTLAND, OR – The Seattle Rainmakers upset the Portland Stags with a 1 7-16 win at Lincoln High School.
How it Happened: The Rainmakers took control of the game early and went up 4-1. The Stags were able to fight back and found themselves still down by one at half. The Rainmakers continued to lead throughout the game. The Stags were able to tie the game several times, but they were never able to lead and in the end found themselves unable to surpass the Rainmakers.
Turning Point: Late in the fourth quarter the Rainmakers were able to get another break to put them up by two. With only two minutes left on the clock, the Rainmakers managed possession to let the clock wind down and take the win.
What it Means: The Stags season is over and the Rainmakers will be traveling to Philadelphia to play in the MLU Championship on August 8.
Stat of the Game: One point, two years in a row. For two consecutive seasons the Portland Stags have lost the Western Conference Finals at home by one point.
Player of the Game: The entire Seattle team. With team-wide cohesion, the Rainmakers looked better than they have all season with no one player sticking out above another.
